The 4-day Marrakech to Fes desert tour is the extended version of Morocco's classic Sahara crossing. One extra day adds what the 3-day tour can't fit: a full day in Merzouga with Khamlia village, Gnaoua music, a night at a lodge with a pool, and extended desert time before the sunset camel trek. From €315 per person with your own private 4×4, three nights half-board, luxury ensuite camp, and a Fes drop-off.

PhotographyDay by Day
Four days from Marrakech to Fes — through the Sahara the unhurried way. Because it's private, every stop is adjustable.
Depart Marrakech at 07:30 AM, driving southeast through the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260m). Scenic stops at traditional Berber villages along the way.
Explore the UNESCO-listed Kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou with a local Berber guide — filming location for Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Continue to Ouarzazate (optional Atlas Film Studios visit).
This is where the 4-day itinerary already differs. Instead of racing to Dades, stop at the Skoura oasis — one of Morocco's largest, home to the perfectly restored Kasbah Amridil. Continue through the Valley of the Roses to Dades Valley. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Babylon.
Drive to Tinghir for a walk through the palm-lined oasis. Continue to the dramatic Todra Gorge — towering 300-metre limestone cliffs from a flat riverbed. Lunch at the gorge.
Continue via Erfoud (fossils and date market) and Rissani (birthplace of Morocco's ruling dynasty). Arrive at your Merzouga lodge — Auberge du Sud or Xaluca Tomboctou — a comfortable hotel at the edge of Erg Chebbi with air-conditioned rooms, ensuite bathrooms, a swimming pool, and a restaurant. Check in, relax, take a dip. Dinner and overnight.
After breakfast at the lodge, visit the village of Khamlia to meet local Berber nomads. This small community is known for Gnaoua music — a hypnotic blend of African rhythms, Berber traditions, and Sufi spirituality, performed with castanets and drums. Welcome tea, an intimate musical performance, and a window into a way of life far from the cities.
This is the day the 3-day tour doesn't have. A full afternoon in the desert — explore the dunes, take photos in the shifting light, try sandboarding, or simply absorb the silence and scale of the Sahara.
Mount your camel and ride into the Erg Chebbi dunes as the sun drops. Arrive at your luxury desert camp — a private ensuite tent with real beds, hot shower, quality linens, and electricity. Moroccan dinner under the stars, Berber drumming around the campfire, and some of the clearest night skies you'll ever see.
Wake before dawn for a sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes — the light spreads from deep blue to gold across the sand. After breakfast at camp, begin the journey northeast toward Fes.
Travel through the stunning Ziz Valley — expansive date palm groves and dramatic cliffs. Continue to Midelt for lunch in the mountains.
Drive through the Middle Atlas and the cedar forests of Azrou to spot the playful Barbary macaques. Arrive in Fes in the late afternoon. Your driver drops you at your hotel or riad — the end of four extraordinary days from Marrakech to Fes through the heart of the Sahara.

"The 4-day version was worth every extra euro. Having a full day in Merzouga meant we could visit Khamlia, hear the Gnaoua music, and explore the dunes without rushing. The lodge pool was a welcome break. Arriving in Fes felt like the perfect conclusion."
"We almost booked the 3-day but upgraded at the last minute. The Khamlia music was a highlight none of us expected, and having the lodge with a pool before the camp night was genius. Our driver Mohammed made every stop special."
"My family had a fantastic journey from Marrakech to Fes. Hassan knew all the right places, including where to support local artisans. The quad biking in the Sahara was absolutely worth it. A perfect blend of cultural insights and fun."
"I'm a photographer and the 4-day pacing was ideal. Sunrise dunes, Khamlia portraits in the morning light, Todra Gorge shadows, cedar forest atmosphere — four completely different shoots in four days. The private tour let me stop wherever the light was right."
