Hike It or Ride It — The Atlas Mountains at Your Pace

This is the only MDT trek with a full mule ride option included in the price. Tired legs? Ride a mule. Want to push yourself? Hike the whole way. Switch between hiking and riding whenever you like — the mules walk alongside you regardless, carrying your luggage. It's the perfect trek for mixed-ability groups: fit hikers can walk while grandparents or young children ride. Three days through Ouirgane National Park and the Azzaden Valley, staying in village guesthouses, with the Tizi N'Mzik pass as the scenic climax. Looking for more challenge? See our Toubkal summit treks or the Imlil-to-Ourika traverse.

"My sister and I had an amazing experience during our valley trek. The Azzaden Valley was stunning, and our guide was incredibly knowledgeable. The mule ride option was perfect — I hiked most of it but rode the mule up the pass on Day 3. We felt we should have reserved more time for this adventure!"

"We brought our parents (both in their 70s) and our kids (8 and 11). The mule ride option made it possible for everyone. Grandpa rode the mule most of the way while the kids ran ahead with the guide. Tinzert village was charming. The views from Tizi N'Mzik were breathtaking. A family memory for life."

"The perfect introduction to trekking. I'd never done a multi-day hike before and was nervous, but this was so manageable. The guide paced everything perfectly. Sleeping in Berber guesthouses was an experience in itself — the food was incredible. I've now booked the Toubkal trek for next year!"

"Ouirgane National Park on Day 1 was gorgeous — the juniper forests feel ancient and peaceful. The Azzaden Valley on Day 2 with Toubkal in the background was the highlight. Ait Aissa village was so remote and beautiful. This trek is perfect if you want the Atlas experience without pushing yourself to the limit."

"We did this in December — cold mornings but crystal clear skies and no crowds at all. The guesthouses had fireplaces and warm blankets. The route was completely accessible even in winter. If you're visiting Marrakech in the off-season, this is a brilliant way to see the mountains without altitude worries."

"We brought our mum (68) and she absolutely loved it. She rode the mule on the steeper sections and walked the rest. The guide was so patient with our mixed-pace group. Tinzert was magical at night — total silence, incredible stars. The food in the guesthouses was outstanding. Highly recommend for families."

"Perfect level of difficulty for us — we're casual walkers, not serious hikers, and we managed every day comfortably. The Azzaden Valley on Day 2 was the highlight — walnut trees, terraced fields, Toubkal in the background. And the mule ride option on Day 3 over the pass was a lifesaver for my knees!"

"We did this with our two kids (9 and 12) and it was the highlight of our Morocco trip. The kids loved the mule, the village stays, and the guide who taught them Berber words. Not too difficult, not too easy — just right. The Ouirgane Park on Day 1 was gorgeous. Would do it again in a heartbeat."

"I'm 72 and this was my first ever trek. I was nervous but the guide and the mule made it completely manageable. I walked most of Day 1 and 2, and rode the mule over the pass on Day 3. The views from Tizi N'Mzik were spectacular. The whole experience — the villages, the food, the mountains — was unforgettable."
